Catherine Davis of the Georgia Prevention Institute and her colleagues conducted a study impact of exercise on brain activity and intelligence scores in 171 children, ages 7-11. The study found that the more kids exercised, the more their test scores went up. The study found that there are many benefits of exercise beyond just physical health, that even just as little as 20 minutes of physical activity increased student’s test scores and that eliminating programs such as recess and gym may eventually lead to costs of the decline of academic programs effectiveness.
Coordinated Approach to Child Health (CATCH) and Playworks are some of the many national programs also working to insure that exercise remains a priority in the lives of our kids.
