Hi everyone,
Janey here. I have so much cool stuff to tell you today!
Well, there’s good news and bad news. The bad news first: yesterday, I hung out with friends and I had some WHOA foods! Doughnuts, cookies, ice cream, the works! I wasn’t planning on eating them, but once they’re in front of you and everyone else is going at it…it’s hard to resist!
When I came home last night, I felt REALLY yucky. Tired, bloated, and grumpy. My mom noticed something was off and I admitted I had a little too many “Once in a While” Foods. My mom reminded me that it’s okay to eat junk sometimes, but it’s more important to eat fresh and from the earth.
The next day my mom took me to our local farm CSA stands for Community Sustained Agriculture), a cool place where you pay for your share of the veggies and fruits. We were there to pick real, live food—like strawberries! As soon as I enjoyed the juicy berries that I had picked with my own hands, I understood how much better they tasted than the icky junk from last night.
It just feels better when you eat natural, local foods. I was instantly energized. I loved the taste of the fresh-picked strawberries and it was fun to stomp in the dirt and search for the best ones! Foods from a garden or farmer’s market located near you are fresh, yummy, and nutritious.
So the good news is, I’m going back to the cool farm again, except this time I’ll bring my friends and who knows what we’ll pick…maybe blueberries!
See you at the dinner table,
Janey
