A special message from our Executive Director, Barbara Storper:
Did you know that Hannaford Supermarkets has made it possible for over 225,000 children throughout the Northeast to participate in FOODPLAY?
Now in our tenth year of partnership, this wonderful company has made child nutrition a priority and supported bringing FOODPLAY to hundreds of schools over the last decade – reaching almost one million children, school staff, and family members!
This year, FOODPLAY is coming to 35 elementary schools, thanks to this innovative supermarket company. Programs feature school-wide assembly performances along with our comprehensive set of nutrition education resources, and make nutrition come alive in the classroom, cafeteria, and at home all year long. Participating schools use FOODPLAY to kick-start their wellness efforts and get everyone on board – kids, teachers, parents, food service, and the community – to work together. Plus, Hannaford provides kids with their own set of Fruit and Veggie Tracker Bands – a fun way to help kids go for more fruits and veggies each day.
As a nutritionist with the mission of helping raise the next generation to be healthy eaters and active learners, I am so appreciative of companies like Hannaford for their ongoing support and dedicated efforts to help families in local communities improve their health and wellness.
Hannaford was the first supermarket in the country to create a nutrition rating system, known as “Guiding Stars,” which makes it easier for shoppers to identify and choose the healthiest options. Hannaford also employs nutritionists at many of their stores to help customers get the most nutritional value for their money. And, fresh fruits and vegetables are a top priority, as the Hannaford grocers work with local farmers to bring in the freshest produce each season.
With the help of healthy partners like Hannaford Supermarkets, we here at FoodPlay Productions are able to reach more schools, families, and kids than ever before with these essential nutrition messages. And that is something to be truly thankful for. It takes a healthy village to raise healthy kids, and it takes companies like Hannaford – a great example of a true Community Health Hero!
