How to Use This DVD
Tobe Fit—Ace Food Detective: Cracking the Case!
Note for Teachers (Or How to Use DVD in your Class)
Directions for Use: These Case File segments can be played on a computer or DVD player. You can show them in front of the whole class, in smaller groups, or with students individually. We suggest that you start with the Intro, and then show one Case File for each nutrition lesson. You may wish to have children watch the Case File more than once before moving on to the Case File’s set of “Questions”.
For several “Cases,” there are “Special Investigations” found at the end of the multiple choice questions. These provide an opportunity for kids to discuss and investigate subjects further, by relating the nutrition information to their own lives.
To add a writing activity, download the Tobe Fit “Ace Food Detective Log” handout, which encourages students to take notes while watching the segments. We suggest that students first be able to enjoy the video segments without worrying about taking notes. Then, during the second or third time they watch the segment, have students take notes (or draw pictures, for younger students) to complete their “Detective Log.” They can then use these log notes and pictures to help them answer the DVD’s questions after each case file. You can also have them put all the logs together to make their own Detective Log notebook.
Use this fun sheet to take notes and draw pictures while watching each Case File. Use your notes to answer the questions and special investigations! Then, put all your sheets together to make up your own Detective Log notebook!
