Welcome to another FoodPlay Friday!
It’s going to be a harrowing weekend here in western Massachusetts, complete with wet weather and howling winds, but we’ve got tips and links to help keep us all healthy and happy this Halloween.
First, be sure to grab your copy of our Fall Newsletter, which is chock full of tips for a fun and healthy Halloween. Some of my favorites include packing up your extra candy as care packages for soldiers and adding some extra physical activity to help burn off all those goodies! We’ve also got a menu for an “Orange and Black” food party, featuring a host of delicious treats! Download your free newsletter here.
Our office is more than ready for some spooky fun, thanks to our local FOODPLAY troupe, who got into the spirit over the weekend. Check out their handiwork below!
An opportunity for creativity is one of the things that makes Halloween so much fun for kids and adults alike. Two Kids (and a Mom) Cooking got things going last week with their Zombie Treats (aka fresh mozzarella-filled ravioli). At Super Healthy Kids, Amy whips up some 7 Grain Pumpkin Biscotti Ghosts. At Mom’s Kitchen Handbook, Katie Morford adapts a State Fair treat into her own Spooky Supper: The Walking Taco.
Bento lunch enthusiasts, always a creative bunch, really go to town this Halloween. You can find some great examples at What’s for Lunch at Our House, Kawaii Kakkoii Sugoi, Mad Feisty, GeekMom, and Happy Little Bento.
For some creative thinking about what to do with all your leftovers, be sure to check out Cheri’s 23 Ways to Use Up Leftover Pumpkin Purée at Simple Bites. And if you’re looking for some easy, seasonal treats, Mommy Dietician Angela Lemond shares some simple tips for Super Easy Roasted Butternut Squash, while Melissa Halas-Liang sings the praises of homemade Cranberry Fruit Mix.
If you’ve got a Halloween-themed meal or healthy tip to share, we’d love to see them in comments!
That’s all for this week! See you next FoodPlay Friday!
