Welcome to another FoodPlay Friday!
After a few days out of the office, I find myself with two weeks’ worth of healthy tips and delicious recipes to browse, so today’s catch-up post will be filled with tasty autumn goodness!
First, on the home front, FoodPlay’s Fall Newsletter is out, chock full of fun ways to enjoy nature’s autumn bounty, including tips for a healthier Halloween! Click here to pick up your own free copy.
With our fall troupes now out on the road, we’re excited to discover the wonderful work being done in school lunchrooms all over the country. Be sure to check out this video from NBC Connecticut to find out how one dietician has helped to make changes in her school. And for a more personal take on what’s going on out there, actor Joseph Bromfield has begun his on-the-road series. Keep your eye on our blog for his weekly updates.
Pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins are dominating the healthy food blogosphere these days, beginning with Dana Angelo White’s 31 Days of Pumpkins over at the Food Network’s Healthy Eats blog. At Eating Rules, guest blogger Jennifer Leal offers up Chickpea, Pumpkin Seed & Feta Salad. Prevention RD‘s Nicole combines three autumn delights in her Pumpkin Cranberry Apple Baked Oatmeal. And at desert time, who can resist this Pumpkin Sherbet?
Linda McDonald at Supermarket Savvy brings out these pumpkin breakfast treats, and suggests that kids help with the preparation. Check out Healthy Kids Challenge for a host of Pumpkin Power ideas for food and fun. Inspired RD Alysa offers up these tasty Sweet & Spicy Pumpkin Fries. And the Meal Makeover Moms go all out with this scrumptious-looking Ghoulishly-Good Stuffed Sugar Pumpkin – Recipe Redux. Wow.
Of course, pumpkins aren’t the only thing on the menu for fall! For something a little different, try Tori Avey’s Roasted Root Vegetables at Eating Rules, Pure Mamas‘ Juli Novotny’s Grilled Poblano Peppers, or Erika Penzer Kerekes’ Oven-baked parsnip fries at In Erika’s Kitchen. And for some general tips for keeping your kids healthy as the temperatures sink, turn to Super Healthy Kids, where Amy shares her Top 5 Secrets to Healthy Kids this Fall.
That’s all for this week! See you next FoodPlay Friday!
